I was able to take the kids to SJ for spring break. I was so excited and happy to be off of work for a week to spend with the kids! I was determined to show my kids how to have fun without spending money and just enjoying nature! We stopped on the way to play in the snow that was left. The kids had fun and got their shoes all wet. But they had fun and so the stop was well worth it. Enjoying the elements of weather awesome!
The first day, the weather was absolutely fabulous! I took the kids to the park and let them ride their bikes around and play on play ground equipment while I played tennis. I used to play tennis almost every night as a kid. I think I have mentioned this before. My cousin Mindy and I would either go to night swimming or play a mean game of tennis with each other. Kailey and I had fun messing around. We couldn't remember how the scoring went and so we just played. It took us awhile to be able to get a good volley going. Julie let Kaitlin come and play with us and a little later keirsten brought kansas and calvin and she and I played a few good games. I had a blast! We stayed there for quite a few hours! In fact I got sunburned! I miss being able to have hours to spend on fun!
The next day was cold and raining. I LOVED it. I love the rain and the cold so I liked it. But the down side was we really weren't able to get out much and do things. I was hoping to take the kids horse back riding but couldn't pull it off. So we just hung out and visited with family. Julie had a relief society birthday party she was in charge of so we helped her with that. Kailey mostly helped her do everything. I was happy to see kailey so willing to help!
The next day was cold and WINDY. I forgot how much I don't like the wind. You just can't imagine the wind in SJ unless you lived there. It is almost non-stop. I had been telling my kids about Pattersons pond and all my many adventures as a kid there. So we all hoped in the car and went for a drive. I took them there and showed them where the old dock used to be. Where we used to lay out. Took them to the rezi and told them all the stories. It was fun to reminisce about the many things I did as a child! Showed them how we used to "Coast" through town. Cami is still the winner as far as I know. We were able to go watch jenna in her softball game. I love that we can sit in our cars and don't have to get out to see and watch the games. Oh the joys of a small town. It was so windy! That night we (sister, sister in laws, mom and jenna and kailey) all went to the movies. How great is is that you can go to a show for only $5.00! I would go all the time! We saw Valentines day. It was funny and just plain fun to be together. Although the theater was rather hot. They had the fire stoked and going. We sat up top and it was rather hot. Still had fun though!
The day before I was leaving, my brother Chris said lets have a fire and roast hot dogs! Sounded like a wonderful idea. Until we started doing it and it was freezing! We ended up brewing a huge pot of hot chocolate and sat around the fire visiting and enjoying time with the family. The little kids had fun because the golf cart and rino were there and so they cruised them all around the yard while we sat and visited. It was so much fun! I love my brothers! I had a great time cruising with Chris and getting cokes. I enjoy time alone with him and just talking. I really wish we lived closer!
I was sad to have to leave. I loved staying in my parents house and being able to sit around and just visit every night. I loved that the kids could play non-stop with their cousins. It was fun to ride our bikes around town. I did that a few times and was sore as all get out! I need to get more bike riding in. It is different in the city though....constantly worrying someone is going to hit you. I just don't feel as safe! While I didn't get to take the kids to do everything I had planned due to the weather....I think they had a great time...and I think they enjoyed the simple things of life, small towns and family!
My three little nieces so dang adorable!
The many faces of Ava
The many faces of Kaitlin
The many faces of Kansas
Can you tell we were freezing?

You are right. This is a pretty great place...and family makes it even better.
I know I never lived there but I've been there enough times to know what you mean about the wind! Your posts always make me miss SJ. I'm begging my mom and her siblings to never sell my grandparents house so we can still go up there! I wish they didn't have to move down here :( Or at least I wish it was under different circumstances. Anyway. Glad you had fun!!
I loved seeing this Rach. Made me miss both St. Johns and your family. We have always loved your family and appreciate how close you all are. We need another Cowley family reunion soon.
I am seriously jealous. Oh to be able to jump in the car and go "home." It sounds like you had a grand time.
I totally forgot about being able to drive up to the fence and watch the softball games. My little small town was like that too. I love how much you LOVE your hometown.
